Are you tasked with creating reports where your data is stuck in a huge database? Learn how to retrieve that data on your own with SQL, the standard programming language for creating, updating, and retrieving information stored in databases.
In this day-long class, we will cover basic database concepts so you can understand your data. Then we'll move into writing SQL statements that will allow you to retrieve, sort and filter data. This class will enable students to turn ordinary questions into statements that the database can understand. We will also use simple functions to generate new data and create summaries. All this while joining multiple tables together to retrieve data into your results!
This is a hands-on class with instructor walk-throughs and practice labs to allow students to become familiar with the SQL language and working with databases. Our day starts with an overview of what makes up a database. Then we look at the structure of a SQL statement, specifying proper fields, filtering rows using criteria, sorting data.
This would be enough but, "Are you tired of retrieving your data only to put it in Excel to add the calculations?" We will learn how to use SQL functions and formulas to generating new data and creating summary data with subtotals.
But no class would be complete without helping you understand how to retrieve data from multiple tables using various join options.
Basic knowledge of relational databases and query terms is recommended.
