Adobe InDesign 101

Effective immediately in response to COVID-19, all Technology Training classes will be delivered online until further notice.

In advance of each session, Tech Training will provide you with a Zoom link to your class, along with any required class materials.

Need to design a poster, invitation, newsletter, or any other print or PDF project that has images and words? Then, InDesign is THE application you need to know!

Objectives

Your instructor, a graphic design professional, will cover all the basics necessary to help new and beginning users create compelling layouts or enable you to make edits to existing files. Learn the correct way to set up your documents, work with Layers, troubleshoot common problems, import and format text using InDesign's superior typography features.

See your projects come alive just after one class!

Activities

This class gives you all the tools necessary to create a memorable, well-crafted project. Whether you are self-taught or if this is the first time opening InDesign, together we cover all the tool names and functions.

The class structure is broken into 4 tutorials. Starting with creating and then editing basic text and object frames. Each tutorial builds off the previous one, allowing us to explore new tools while getting comfortable with the palettes and menu items. All the images and files you need to follow along will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring any images and files you wish to work with (time permitting).

You will learn:

  • The importance of working with Frames, including:
    • Creating/modifying/resizing, wrapping text, and orienting/rotating/aligning objects
  • The most efficient methods for formatting text, including:
    • Placing and editing text, Text wrap, adjusting vertical spacing, changing fonts/type style/paragraph alignment, decorative fonts and special characters, drop caps, kerning and tracking, tabs

By the end of the class, you will be ready to open any document or template and make it look the way YOU want.

The class will be taught using Adobe InDesign Creative Cloud.
