Stanford Health Care Staff: How to Chat with People from Other Stanford Affiliations Using Jabber

You can use Jabber to talk to people outside of your organization. This means that Stanford Health Care employees can communicate with employees from Stanford University and Stanford Children's Health and vice versa.

How to contact other Stanford Health Care (SHC) staff

  1. In the Jabber search bar, enter the name or SID of the person you are trying to contact.
  2. The Jabber search will provide a list of possible names that match your search term. Hover over the name of the person you wish to contact and then click Start Chat.

How to contact University staff

  1. Do not use the search bar to find a University contact.
  2. Go to stanfordwho.stanford.edu and search for the contact's SUNet ID.
  3. Create a new contact and enter their SUNet ID@stanford.edu. (For information on how to create a contact, see the detailed chat instructions for your operating system.)
  4. Initiate a chat with the person.
  5. The University affiliate will only see your SID. To see your name, the University affiliate needs to add you to their address book and change your SID to a real name.

How to contact Stanford Children's Health (SCH) staff

  1. Do not use the search bar to find an SCH contact.
  2. Create a new contact and enter the first part of their SCH email address @lpch.org (e.g., jdoe@lpch.org). (For information on how to create a new contact, see the detailed chat instructions for your operating system.)
