Stanford Sites, the university’s centrally managed and cloud-based Drupal platform, requires separate environments for Drupal 7 and Drupal 9+. Maintaining both versions in parallel incurs additional costs; due to funding constraints, the Drupal 7 environment will no longer be available after June 30, 2022. In November 2023, the Drupal community will no longer provide security updates when new vulnerabilities are discovered on D7. See full text of the announcement on Drupal.org. For websites hosted on Acquia Cloud, extended support for D7 websites ends November 2025. The extended support includes security updates only for Drupal core; custom module support is not available. |
