How can I use Jabber to connect with people outside of my Stanford affiliation?

Wednesday, July 19, 2017

Whether you work at Stanford University or one of the Stanford hospitals, it is now easier to use Cisco Jabber to collaborate with people from other Stanford affiliations, as well as external companies or organizations.

Stanford University Jabber users can chat with users at Stanford Health Care, Stanford Children’s Health, and external companies or organizations that use an Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) messaging service such as Adium or Pidgin. Simply add the person as new contact, and chat away! It is no longer necessary to take extra steps to add Jabber users outside your affiliation as custom contacts.

See the Jabber website for instructions on chatting with Jabber users with different Stanford affiliations. To learn how to chat with Jabber users who work outside of Stanford, see detailed chat instructions for your operating system.
