30 Campus IT Professionals Begin Leadership Training This Fall

Monday, November 2, 2015

The latest cohort of the Stanford Technical Leadership Program (STLP) is underway. This new class of 30 IT professionals from across campus will eventually join more than 150 of their colleagues who have completed the program since its 2009 inception.

University IT introduced the coursework to help support individual growth and the continued development of technical leads and managers. It is an additional opportunity for leaders of technical strategy and operations to work together to identify and resolve issues as well as define and propose opportunities to improve Stanford.

Program goals
Specifically the program aims to:

  • enhance the professional and personal development of individuals who will play increasingly important leadership and management roles within information technology,
  • broaden each participant's understanding of the strategic and technical issues facing the university, and
  • strengthen relationships within and across departments in order to foster collaboration and leverage resources when working on common interests.

Curriculum and format
The STLP curriculum consists of five sets of two-day, on-site workshops; guest speakers; opportunities to define and collaborate on small projects; and individualized coaching.

The program begins in September with a welcome reception. The onsite sessions start in October and conclude in June. The program is delivered by MOR Associates, an organization with a successful track record of developing technical leaders in colleges and universities.
