Cisco Jabber Softphone Users Need To Upgrade to Latest Version

Wednesday, April 14, 2021

Due to a security vulnerability, all Cisco Jabber users must upgrade their Jabber application to version 12.9.5 for Windows and 12.9.6 for Mac as soon as possible.

How to install the upgrade

Many Stanford and personally-owned computers running Jabber are managed by University IT’s (UIT) Endpoint Configuration Management (aka BigFix) service. This service will automatically upgrade your Jabber client in the coming days.

Because BigFix is not used on all Stanford computers, UIT advises manually upgrading your Jabber software in advance of the automated process to address this security concern.

Starting April 15, you will be presented with the option to upgrade. Begin by launching the Jabber application. If it is already active, you’ll need to quit and restart or log out and then log back in.

Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

  • Windows users: Click Install the update.

  • Mac Users: Click Install Update.
