Macros in Excel can eliminate repetitive tasks, reduce errors and save time, among other things. In this lecture we will demonstrate the recording and playing back of macros, and some basic editing. By the end of the lecture, you will know how to record, edit and implement macros within Microsoft Excel and have explored the best practices on how to automate files and tasks with macros.

You will learn the different ways in which you can record macros. By recording a macro, you can save your steps and replay them with the single click of a button or keyboard shortcut. We will debug macros by stepping into the code, learning how to assign keyboard shortcuts and custom buttons to macros, and learning how to access the code directly for minor edits. Understand the purpose and use of the "Personal Macro Workbook" and how to share these macros with your colleagues.

Topics covered:

  • Recording Macros
  • The Developer toolbar
  • Relative vs. Absolute Macros
  • Where to save Macros
  • Creating Custom Buttons
  • How to Edit a Macro
  • The Visual Basic Editor
  • Sharing Macros
  • Security and Macros
