Vision and Value

Cardinal Print is Stanford's holistic managed print services program. The program supports Stanford's goals of improving workflow efficiency, reducing security risks, enhancing the end user experience, reducing the total cost of ownership, and achieving long-term sustainability goals.

This managed print service is offered by an external provider to analyze and manage document output devices. The analysis helps departments to gain visibility into and control over printing, which helps save money, boost productivity, and improve environmental sustainability and document security.

Program Benefits

Supports Stanford's Goals

The Cardinal Print program supports Stanford's sustainability and security goals.

  • Reduce Stanford’s environmental impact: The program reduces Stanford’s use of toner, paper, and energy, and all devices are ENERGY STAR®- and EPEAT®-certified. Cardinal Print supports our sustainability goals, including becoming 80% carbon free by 2025 and achieving zero waste by 2030.
  • Print securely: Authenticate with a badge at a Cardinal Print Canon multifunction device (MFD) to print jobs when and where needed. Cardinal Print is approved for High Risk data and protected health information (PHI).

Easy to Manage

Program benefits include simpler print device management and administration, improved workflows, and a range of training resources.

  • Decrease total cost of ownership: Cardinal Print offers a standardized solution for entire departments and eliminates the competitive bidding requirement (there is no need for a sole source justification). The program's ongoing vendor management, day-to-day support, and supply management help clients save money and increase the value of their investment.
  • Optimize print environment and workflows: Clients receive expert support to reduce or eliminate printing and make paper-heavy business processes more efficient and effective. Cardinal Print saves space by getting the right devices in the right places.
  • Offload administration of print devices: An onsite team manages supplies, provides prompt service, and picks up and delivers equipment.
  • Train employees easily: User guides, videos, and eLearning resources explain device functions and features.

Easy to Use

The print devices make printing more convenient and offer a range of advanced features.

  • Print anywhere: Print securely from any device, including a tablet or mobile device, and pick up printouts at any Cardinal Print MFD.
  • Print quickly: Be more productive with new, upgraded MFDs.
  • Use advanced features: Use the program's advanced features to scan directly to email, staple printouts, or add three-hole punching a printout.

Why We Chose Cardinal Print

The Financial Management Services department found a more reliable, efficient, economical, and sustainable print solution when they moved to Cardinal Print on the Stanford Redwood City campus. See their case study to learn more about how their print experience improved.

Cardinal Print was the right choice for us. We've saved time and improved efficiency by eliminating personal printers and decreasing the time our staff spends on print-related tasks and maintenance. We love the new process and devices. Overall, it has been a great user experience and a big plus for our staff.

-Brian Talbott, Executive Associate Athletics Director, CFO for Stanford Athletics

Approximately one-third of Stanford’s cyber vulnerabilities are associated with printers. As Cardinal Print is adopted throughout the university, our cybersecurity posture will improve substantially.

- Michael Duff, Assistant Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer

I look forward to implementing Cardinal Print across LBRE and am confident it will be a win, win, win, win: professionally managed hardware, a consistent and convenient user experience, improved sustainability through reduced waste, and the opportunity to decommission aging hardware that presents a cybersecurity risk.

— Michael Fox, CIO for Land, Buildings and Real Estate
